SAN ANTONIO FACILITY GUIDE

Planning a Commercial LED Retrofit in San Antonio

A full-facility lighting conversion is more than swapping fixtures. A useful plan starts with existing equipment, operating hours, work areas, exterior lighting, controls, access, phasing and the facility’s operational constraints.

Start with the existing facility

Evaluate controls with the lighting

Controls can be part of the retrofit strategy rather than an afterthought. Occupancy-based control, scheduling and exterior-lighting control may change how a project is designed and how savings are evaluated.

Check current CPS Energy programs before finalizing scope

CPS Energy currently publishes commercial and industrial efficiency programs for eligible customers in its San Antonio-area territory, including incentives for lighting and other efficiency measures. Program eligibility, incentive levels and requirements can change, so facility owners should confirm the current program before committing to a project based on an expected incentive.

Plan around an operating facility

For active offices, warehouses and commercial facilities, phasing matters. The project plan should account for occupied areas, working hours, lifts or access equipment, shutdown requirements, material staging and areas that cannot be taken out of service at the same time.

Permits and project requirements

The City of San Antonio Development Services Department publishes commercial project and electrical permit resources. Whether a particular scope requires permits or other approvals depends on the work involved. Requirements should be confirmed for the actual project rather than assumed from a generic checklist.
